About the Author
Linda Parry is former deputy keeper of the department of furniture, textiles, and fashion at the V&A, where she worked for over 30 years. She is the author of Textiles of the Arts and Crafts Movement and British Textiles from 1850 to 1900, and editor of William Morris. Among the exhibitions she curated at the V&A are “Textiles of the Arts and Crafts Movement” (1988) and “William Morris” (1996).

Great pictures and text

If you need just one book on Morris get this book. Great pictures and text. Lots of biographical information about Morris and all of his business partners and rivals. Discussion about how patterns were created and then produced throughout the text for each type of product. Curtains, rugs and linoleum are represented. Talented individuals who produced the embroidered masterpieces are shown. Each so talented as to give Morris's conceptions and ideas their final glory. Morris while brilliant could not have been as successful without the talents of family and employees who surrounded him. Every art form is represented. Watercolorists who painted the patterns created. Embroiderers who used the patterns. Weavers who figured out how to set up looms to use the patterns. Families who gathered talented women together to create works that often to years to finish. And then businessmen who understood the advantages and limitations for such arts and crafts creations, and who did not overwhelm the abilitys of those working to reduce the quality of what was made. This would be a great coffee table book. It would also be a fantastic source book for a designer or decorator.

I love this book.

I love this book. Filled with knowledge and examples. Got it at an excellent price used but I barely notice the wear. It covers all the different mediums Morris worked in and includes a catalog of repeating textiles at the end of the book which is very informative. Fantastic book.

A great reference

I wish there were more color plates, but the index of patterns in the back is great. Everyone I showed this to was amazed by William Morris' work.
It was super helpful as reference for my own pattern project!
