While living in a rural area of Maine I was witness to a series of in-the-flesh appearances by two ascended masters named Pursah and Arten, who eventually identified their previous incarnations as including those of Saint Thomas and Saint Thaddaeus. (Despite popular myth, those lifetimes as two of the original disciples were not their final ones.) My visitors did not come forth in order to repeat some of the spiritual platitudes that many people already believe. Rather, they revealed no less than the secrets of the universe, discussed the true purpose of life, and spoke in detail about The Gospel of Thomas. They also clarified the principles of an astounding spiritual document that will usher in a new way of thinking that will become more prevalent in the new millennium.
You don’t have to believe these appearances took place in order to derive benefits from the information in this book. However, I can vouch for the extreme unlikeliness of this book being written by an uneducated layman such as myself without inspiration by these masters. At any rate, I leave it up to readers to think whatever they choose about the book’s origins.
I personally believe that The Disappearance of the Universe can be helpful, time-saving reading for any open-minded person who is on a spiritual path. After you experience this message, it may be impossible for you — as it was for me — ever to look at your life or think of the universe the same way again.

Forgiveness Explained

This will be different for each person, but I am sharing here what the book has done for me. I have been a diligent course (A Course in Miracles) student for over 2 years now. I have been studying both the text and the workbook and have read the Manual for Teachers and Glossary of Terms. Having completed both once already, I am studying these course books again, under the careful and helpful guidance of the Holy Spirit. I have gained many insights and my life has changed immensely… but I needed help. So following this saying, “when a student is ready, a teacher will appear,” along came The Disappearance of the Universe book.
For me, this book is Holy Spirit’s help to take me to the next level. This book has served the ONE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PURPOSE. I am speaking of FORGIVENESS. Through the course, I gained the knowledge and understanding of the components of forgiveness, but somehow wasn’t able to put them all together. Then, along came this book and now I get it.
Forgiveness process is: learning to believe and see that this world is just a dream, that I am not this body, that what this body sees and feels and experiences is not happening. That no one is doing anything to me, because what I see and experience out in the world is really my own projected hatred and guilt which are inside me. But this is not real either, because I never sinned against God. I never separated from God. The real me is and has always been one with God all along. So, I do not have to run and hide from God and I have nothing to feel guilty about. I did not do anything wrong.
Forgiveness is being aware of all of this and then letting go of what this body sees and experiences and feels. It is learning to detach and separate myself from this world, by not getting emotionally involved in its activities, by remembering that this is just a dream, that it is not real and it is not happening.
Finally, since this body is not me, then, it does not matter what happens to this body. I can completely detach and separate from this body and have no personal investment nor attachment to this body. But since this body is here in this illusory world at the moment, then, by all means, Holy Spirit please utilize it for the good of all oneness.
The above is my personal paraphrase, elaboration and extension of the process of forgiveness as described in the book. As it is said in Gary’s book, the words do not matter, it is the attitude that is important.
So, the truth is here. Now, comes the diligent part of applying it which is the next phase of my life.
By the way, it really doesn’t matter to me where or from whom Gary received these insights, whether they came from ascended masters, Pursah and Arten, or from other sources. All this truth comes down from Holy Spirit anyway, regardless of the mouth through which it is spoken.
There are many other spiritual gold nuggets that I have gleaned from the reading of this book. And, I was also able to fill in some spiritual gaps, things I was curious about, with the information from this book as well. But, there are also some pages and chapters, especially towards the end, that just do not add up for me. Throughout, I heavily relied on Holy Spirit’s guidance and discernment to sort through everything to determine what to keep and use and what to discard.
Lastly, I was able to understand this book precisely because I have spent considerable amount of time studying the course first. The course was also the place where I learned to discern Holy Spirit’s thoughts and messages.
But, then, your path may be different. So, may the Holy Spirit guide you.

Talk about an powerful book! Wow!

Geez, this was actually not what I was expecting and totally delighted that I received it! Ever hear the saying "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear?" Well, I must be ready. I listened to the audiobook of The Disappearance of the Universe which made it more personal to me. I loved hearing Gary's voice and Doreen Virtue, as I know them both to be kind-hearted, generous and very inspirational souls. I felt like I was a bit on a roller-coaster with this, as some of things Gary spoke of seemed to be hard to believe. However, I myself have witnessed miracles so I did my best to put aside any judgements or preconceived notions and decided to be present to Gary's words and stay buckled on the ride to the end!
In Disappearance of the Universe, Gary shares his personal journey of being "just a guy" to meeting with two beings who teach some profound words of wisdom for living life on earth. Concepts like "everything is an illusion" and "every person and event we have in our lives is because we put them there" took me out of being a victim in my life and turned me into being responsible for it all!!! What a cool way to live life! Hard to remember most of the times, but Gary mentions A Course in Miracles, Combined Volume: Text, Workbook for Students, Manual for Teachers, 2nd Edition as a way to make this into a daily practice. Most appealing to me is that he says it is possible to quiet the mighty ego - the one that I have in my mind that is always telling me I am not good enough, a failure and unlovable. I so want to be living life free from that voice in my head. Think of how much peaceful life could be without a constant nag in your head AND living life as YOU are the creator of it all. For some, that will occur as both good and bad news, but ultimately it is good news. I am left happy, empowered and certainly responsible with a TON of forgiveness and gratitude after listening to The Disappearance of the Universe. And...I did just order A Course in Miracles too. Thank you Gary Renard for another great listen. Thought provoking, insightful, and helpful!

I just read "The Disappearance of the Universe: Straight Talk about Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the Miracles of Forgiveness," by Gary R. Renard (Copyright 2004, 448 pages). The book had been highly recommended to me by a friend who is a decades-long student and past teacher of A Course in Miracles (ACIM, sometimes called "the Course").
Renard's book is a true account of 17 tape-recorded visits to the author by two ascended masters, Arten and Pursah. During their visits, they answer Gary's questions about God, Jesus, and the dream we call life, which we only think is our reality. (Spoiler alert: Our true reality is Heaven, the Oneness of God.)
In their transcribed conversations, the two masters share inspiring ideas and insights to help Gary and his future readers (because they know he'll write a book) better understand the dream we believe we're living, and how to forgive everyone, in order to eventually awaken from the dream and become aware of our Oneness. In the book, Arten and Pursah cite and explain relevant sections from the Course (ACIM) text and workbook.
Note that I've never personally read the Course, although I have subscribed for decades to "The Holy Encounter" newsletter produced by its world headquarters because I appreciate the contents. That being said, I did find great value and food for thought (and improvement) in "The Disappearance of the Universe."
