The one drags on and on.
By CRB Amazon
Sofia and Ben have managed to get away from The Shade. They make it home and try to fall into their old lives. Neither Sofia nor Ben feel fulfilled by trying to go back to normal. Ben has been tortured and no longer capable of feeling things as before he was taken to the Shade. He wants vengeance against Claudia. He makes plans for life after high school. He also has made it clear to Sofia that he wants her at his side. He tries to convince her that his way is the right way and they just ignore it when they don’t agree. It is obvious how things are going to unfold with Ben and Sofia. He expects her to feel the same way about The Shade as he does. Sofia and Ben had very different experiences at The Shade. Their time there have changed them both and they both realize that you cannot erase past events just by not thinking about them. Sofia is lost in a way. She fell in love with Derek while at the island and left because it was the right thing to do. Her internal dialogue immediately questions that decision and she wishes she could go back.
At the Shade, Derek if falling back into darkness. He loves and misses Sofia and attempts to forget her. He puts his focus into building a strong army to defend The Shade against it many opponents. While the island has flourished during his enchanted sleep, it’s vampires have become weak and unguarded. Derek realizes that if the island were attached, his people would not fare well against trained vampires or hunters. The prophecy was that he would find his mate and they together would find true sanctuary. With Sofia gone the only thing Derek found was pain and chaos. He knows he needs her light to be at peace within himself.
I did not enjoy A Shade of Blood as Much as I enjoyed A Shade of Vampire. There is continuous viewpoint bouncing and while it was necessary in this book, I think there is just a bit too much of it. I still like the characters, or at least some of them, but this book dragged on and on. It was slow moving and I kept waiting for something to happen and take them in a new direction. Nothing happens until about the end when Sofia get a visit from someone from the island. She and Ben both venture off in a new direction after this encounter. By the end of this book however, I don’t like Ben anymore. I don’t hate him and I sometimes feel sorry for him but I don’t like his heavy-handed approach at reaching his goals or the demanding and dismissive aspects of his personality. I was glad to get to the end of this book and I hope that the next one is as good as the first.

Amazing again!
By Payton Stone
I began writing this review just minutes after I finished the book and my initial response was to give this book a 4 star rating. The more I thought about it, I realized I felt that way because I didn’t like the way the story started or the choices being made. To be very blunt that’s not fair. It really does deserve 5 stars because it was amazing.
This book is literally the complete opposite of the first book. Sometimes this can be taken as a bad thing and sometimes it can be taken as a good thing. Regardless, it was still highly addictive. I read it in 2 days, well probably the span of a little over 24 hours. I just couldn’t put it down! I NEEDED to know what happen next.
Ben took a 180 degree turn where it concerns Sofia. We find out his true feelings towards her, but I can’t help feeling a little suspicious. It just seems like the wrong time. His feelings may be sincere, but in my opinion it should be too little too late. In the first book I was team Ben and Sofia, but not anymore.
Ben’s feelings toward Sofia aren’t the only things that changed drastically. Ben’s personality is the complete opposite as well. He’s spends the whole book walking around with a huge chip on his shoulder, which I completely understand given what he went through. And we get a very vivid picture of what all Claudia put him through while in The Shade. His plan to get revenge also causes more turmoil than it should, especially given that he lays out an ultimatum.
“The darkness is coming” as it is referred to in the book is not what I was expecting it to be. And it’s probably not what you’re thinking it is either.
The Derek in this book is the complete opposite of the Derek in the first book. That simple fact makes me very, very sad. We see a side of him that isn’t so likeable and he comes very close to pushing me towards not being team Derek Novak. Almost But he starts to come back around to the Derek we saw in book 1 towards the end. We will have to wait and see if it sticks.
Derek and his twin sister Vivienne really grow on me throughout this book. They become two of my favorite characters. I really hope this isn’t the last we read of Vivienne. However, some other members of the Novak family I grow to dislike even more, such as Lucas and Gregor Novak (Derek’s father). We only get small glimpses of these two Novak’s, but none of it left a good impression.
The bombs that are dropped throughout this book literally left me with my mouth gaping open . Especially the bomb at the end, on the very last page, in two simple words. I’m trying to resist diving right in to the next book just to find out more! Cliff-hangers are the best and worst thing about a book. Good thing the next book in the series is sitting in my eLibrary just waiting for me to open it up!

A Solid Second Installment
By Dana K Dunbar
Truly enjoyed the unique approach in A Shade of Vampire 1. The vampire theme has been done about every way possible in the last decade or so. However, this series has a whole different perspective. In book 2, Ms. Forrest keeps the story lines and characters charging forward with finesse. Even the supporting characters are carefully developed and Ms. Forrest gives you a kaleidoscope of personalities to wrap your brain around. The timing of each character's development is done quite well and allows the reader to absorb each one.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, Book 3 begins to lose the brilliance of the first two in the series. I still found it readable, but just not as compelling. Book 4 continued to disappoint and I found myself choosing not to continue the series.
Ms. Forrest definitely has a gift for creating a story. I hope in future writing she will find a way to keep the momentum of her storylines if she is going to build them into a series.
