I did not read the entire book.
I was not captivated by the text, very dry reading.
The book had colored pages, but no detailed instructions on how to evaluate the students needs or colors.

I am still trying to understand the use and value of this methodology.
I would appreciate any feed back on how to use the program.

This is a great book. Written well, clear concise and focused on the the subject. The questions in the back are well provided for in the book itself. The pictures feel like they are from some 1940's text but that I can get over. So no stunning visuals just a good Inorganic Text Book.

Brand new condition

This book arrived in perfect condition however, it was a nail biter with the shipping date. It was ordered well in advance of my son's return to college. Delivery date kept getting pushed back. We ordered a second book from another vendor because we had past experience with no show books under same circumstances. Ended up with 2 books arriving in time for school.Sold the extra to another student. I guess 2 books are better than none.

this is the required textbook of my solidsate material course. it is a very good book with a lot of detailed explanation of theory and lots of examples. it is suitable for graduate and senior undergraduate students.

the only withdraw, I think, is that it does not provide answer key.
And, of course, I wish it to be more cheaper.

Buy it, worth the money

If you have struggled with the nuances of the COT report, you will treasure this book. It clearly illustrates the crux of the matter which is price action and the reasons behind it. I would not recommend this for beginners, however. There is a subtlety in evaluating trend shifts and unless you have actually gotten your hands dirty digging into FX and traded for awhile could you appreciate the clarity of Steve Briese's explanations. I have been an active Forex trader for over 5 years and this book I consider to be one of my most valuable on the subject. Forex is not a get rich quick vehicle. There is a steep learning curve as most FX traders will honestly tell you--but this market can be most rewarding for those who spend the time and effort to learn.

Good book

This is a decent book on the committment of traders data (and the only I've read). It provides an overview and the author has dealt with the data for over 20 years so he knows the inns and outs of it. The author has a website, but he doesn't try to hardsell his own newsletter in the book. That is good.

There isn't much information in the book to tell you if the committment data is valualbe in the first place. There are some academic studies (not referenced) that show quite poor results, but there is a problem with academic studies. Only those showing efficient markets tends to get published. If somebody finds a holy-grail he will not publish it. So it is up to you to find out if the committment data can be useful. This book tells you what the data is and how it can be analysed. So don't expect a comprehensive trading system.

I would have loved the author to be more familiar with statistics. He presents a lot of correlation tables and I don't consider them useful. It smells like data mining to me. Still those tables are not at all relevant for the key themes of the book. So not really a problem.

I have written several short reviews on trading books. The best way is to compare the score on the books I've read. Many reviews on amazon.com are just glorious 5 star reviews. I use all five categories; sorry but everything isn't "great". Books rated 5 are very good. Books rated 4 are good solid books well worth reading. Books rated 3 can be bought by some people who read a lot or have very specific needs. Books rated 1 or 2 I would not recommend buying or reading. Naturally all in my humble opinion.

The Clifton Chronicles’ fourth volume takes the saga from the late 1950s to the mid-’60s. The book begins with a shocker: Harry and Emma’s son, Sebastian, is nearly killed in an automobile accident; his friend Bruno does die. It seems Sebastian was the intended target, and Bruno’s father, Don Pedro Martinez, who has a long and contentious history with the Cliftons (and who didn’t know his own son was in the car), is the likely culprit. If you don’t know who any of these people are, you may want to start at the saga’s beginning, 2011’s Only Time Will Tell, because this is an epic-size family drama, operatic in scope. This fourth book focuses on upheavals inside the Barrington Shipping Company: mystery-novelist Harry Clifton’s wife, Emma, is descended from the company’s founder and wants to take over as company chairman, but Don Pedro, with a seething hatred of the Barringtons, has his own plans for the suddenly vacant chairman’s seat. As with the previous volumes in the series, there are myriad subplots winding their way through the book: Harry and Emma’s daughter is engaged, for example, but there are those who aren’t so thrilled about that, and a new member of the Barrington company’s upper echelon is a fellow whose agenda is a troubling mystery. Book # 4

Was it good? Yes! HOWEVER..... this is my problem. The time between book # 3 and BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, book #4, was MUCH TOO LONG!!!!!!! It was hard to recover in my mind what had happened so long ago, and now I have to wait until 2015 for book #5. Will I read #5, YES, however, I will be wary of reading another author who has a series of books not completed all at once. I'm 73 years old and hope to live long enough to find out what happens after the ????????????? at the end of book #4!

Be Prepared for the Unexpected

This is the fourth in a series that I began when the third one had just come out. I've really enjoyed Jeffrey Archer over the years, so whizzed right through the three earlier ones and was eager for the rest of the series. So I'd forgotten a bit about the Clifton family as I started this one.

If you haven't read any of the Clifton Chronicles, you may want to get all seven of them and then read them pretty much back to back, as I actually had to go back to my earlier reviews and scan them to get back to speed, but I'm glad I did.

As you can guess that family saga began with the forefathers of Harry and Emma Clifton and this book starts with a fatal accident in which you believe that the Clifton's son Sebastian has died. Well, its only the first of many twists and turns in this tale that moves the family up through the 1960s. This is power, wealth and plenty of intrigue and of course a death or two.

Not only is there the accident -- that wasn't -- and a vendetta that continues, but now there are upheavals in the family business, the Barrington Shipping Company. Then there are the troubles that follow the Cliftons' adopted daughter, who is unaware of the pitfalls of her family history. The Cliftons and their enemies live large and often on the edge, so prepare to be hooked into this dramatic tale and carried along throughout the tale.

Archer can create wonderful, memorable characters -- whether good guy or villain -- and it is no different with this book. While I rarely stick to a series (especially ones in which I start to hate the main character ...), this one has got me hooked and I do believe I'll be following the entire set. Three more to go!

Be Careful What You Wish For

Not quite as good as the first 3, but enough suspense to keep the reader going. The saga of the Clifton and Barrington families continues into the 60s with all the usual suspense and the addition of new characters and villains. Archer is such a good story teller and this multigenerational series is so engaging that the reader is drawn in by the novel's twists and turns by the end of the story. It's always a case of who will live and who will die who will fall in love, and who will betray a lover, a friend, or a business partner. The pace is fast and the action compelling. Start this series with the first one to get the back story of the Barrington and Cliftons. As Time said, "Archer is a master entertainer," and he does keep the reader entertained.

Inane humour

It is a week imitation of the 1957 Parkinson's Law which humourously addressed a serious problem. It was obvious written for anemic academic colleagues who obviously ignored Parkinson's style and satyrical mathematical approach. It all made for a merry tea party. As far as english humour is concerned, my countryman Mr. Cipolla better read "Trhree men in a boat".The result is a boring pretentious book.

The book "Fundamental of Photonics" is one of the most comprehensive textbooks in applied optics available now. Each chapter not only has in-depth of the topic at hand, but also includes a host of basic and advanced applications of the concept dealt with. This is the Bible of optics.

Horrible textbook, probably okay as a reference.

I took a graduate level Introduction to Photonics class last semester...until I dropped it in October. The professor was not great, and when I tried to get what I needed from the book, I'd instead be greeted by a few "of courses" followed by the result, without every actually proving or explaining anything.

So I give this book three stars because while it is awful as a textbook and if your professor assigns this book in an intro class you really should find another one to supplement, I could tell that it's probably a good reference book. I have another book on my shelf (the Boas Math Methods book) that is like that too--great reference if you need to remember something, not good for learning something. But I had a great professor for the course we used Boas in, so that was okay, and I still refer back to it even now.

I also spoke to someone who stuck out the class and I described the book to as "this book is written for people who already know photonics." He agreed that once he finally got to the point of being comfortable with the foundational material and the class moved into some more specific applications--and therefore he had become part of this book's audience--that the book became a lot more useful.

So yes, awful textbook, probably a good reference if you already know the material. 3 stars to reflect this ambiguity.

Just got my copy and wish I had ordered it much earlier! I find it to be much more useful than the Handbook of Optics. It's very refreshing to find a book which has not been dumbed down so far as to be useless, yet not so mathematical as to be a stumbling block. This is one of the standard textbooks for undergraduate Photonics at Stanford.

Better Than Rosetta Stone, Better Than Living Language

There have been three versions of Assimil Spanish produced throughout the years. One from the 1950's , one from the 1980's, and this new one is from 2014. These aren't simply new editions of the same book, but rather a completely new book with new recordings in each of the three. I own all three and all three are well done and worth using, but of the three this new edition is my favorite and most user-friendly.

The previous version left a lot of white space on the edges of the pages and was difficult to read for many people due to smaller font. This version has corrected that issue and is much easier to read. Every 7 lessons is a review lesson in the books and in the past no audio was provided for the review lessons but in this version there is audio. The speakers on the CDs speak clearly and the audio is great.

Most of you coming here will probably be familiar with the Assimil method but for those of you who aren't the premise is very simple but very effective. One the left side in the book you have the Spanish and on the right side you have English. This makes practice translating back and forth between the languages simple to do. Instead of having a mountain of grammar drills such as the FSI program had which most people cannot stick to long term or being extremely lacking in the practice department such as the Teach Yourself program is, this program takes the middle ground and gives you just enough bite size chunks to feel like you are making real progress with each lesson without overwhelming you.

This program is high priced for what it is, it's true . A paperback book with 100 lessons and 100 audio tracks shouldn't cost this much. I must say , however, it is worth buying regardless. Overpriced programs such as Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur and the like will not even cover a fraction of what you learn in this book. Even Fluenz Spanish which is much better than Rosetta Stone costs hundreds of dollars and only teaches around half of the verb tenses/moods. Living Language's new series even at the "advanced" level don't teach any of the perfect tenses (compound tenses such as "I have eaten", "I had eaten", "I would have eaten" , etc". This book teaches them all, and teaches them painlessly in context rather than throwing grammar charts at you,

After completely this course you really don't need any more formal instruction material and can jump right in the learning from real life material such as from movies, music , etc. If you were to use just one more book after this I can recommend Practice Makes Perfect Spanish Verb Tenses which is extremely well done.

Starting off great. But no mp3 included.

I am enjoying this method so far. I've had the program about 2 weeks and am just in the beginning lessons. I would rate it 5 stars, but the mp3 CD that came with the SuperPack did not actually contain any mp3 files. I've contacted Assimil and hope they will provide the files for me.

My FAVORITE Spanish Learning Program

I am only on lesson 40 but I love this book. This is by far my favorite Spanish learning program. I started doing a lesson per day but then it became more like 3-5 lessons a week since school started. The stories are short, easy to understand, and some are funny or cute. This book makes learning fun which is difficult for me to believe. I have used FSI spanish, Learning Spanish like crazy, Rosetta stone, Spanish Immersion, Pimsleur, Spanish on the Move, and more. The great thing about this book is it does not bog you down. Unlike all the other program, the lesson is only about 1 minute long. I spend 30 minutes or more on it. First, I listen to it without the book, I then read the Spanish side while I listen to it the second time. After trying to figure out what is being said, then I look at the English translation. At that time, I understand the text. I use an app called Audipo (Android) and listen to it as many times as necessary, I repeat those parts that I have difficulties remembering. The goal for me, is to completely understand what is being said. If I happen to memorize the section, then great, if not, that's fine. I am using it mostly as a listening comprehension tool. After 7 lessons, I listen to all the lessons again. It is very easy to go back and go over past material because each lesson is short (about a minute). The book also has the explanation for certain phrases and the literal translations which I find help the information stick. I think Assimil and FSI spanish is the best with helping learn the language. Learning Spanish like crazy was surprisingly useful for phrases and vocabulary that I used in conversations with people on Hellotalk, Skype, and Whatsapp. Memrise and Fluentu are also great tools for learning. I use duolingo but I don't learn anything from it; for me, it is only good as a review of what you know. Good luck!
