Educational - all in one

I bought this book for my boss (he wanted it for his daughter) - however I ended up keeping it
Reason was I actually started reading the book and doing the first part of the exercises over the weekend and I honestly think it offers a wide range of advanced Psychometric questions - The author is honest and straightforward - I am still in the first section of the book however I have glanced over the different section and I like what I see... very comprehensive, and if nothing - a good way to keep your brain going and train yourself for a possible Psychometric test.

Avoid for numeracy tests

I used this book to help me prepare for some upcoming numerical reasoning tests. Although I won't doubt that it was useful in preparing me for these tests, I encountered no less than 10 mistakes in a series of 340 questions in the numeracy section. I think this is completely unacceptable in a book designed to test peoples skills in an area as daunting as numeracy. I worry for consumers who have doubted themselves as a result of this books incorrect answers.

I can't comment on any other content in this book as I only had occasion to use the numeracy section.

I recommend you to avoid this book. More accurate and proofread test books will be out there.

A great buy!

If you have not experienced psychometric testing before or are a long time out of school this book is for you. There may not be such a thing as a perfect psychometric test score but practice will help and make you feel a great deal more comfortable on the day. It is full of all the standard tests starting with very easy examples so you get a feel for what is expected. I came out of my test thinking "that wasn't too bad at all". Highly recommended.

overstated by the author

A good read for those unfamiliar to universal laws other than the law of attraction. Other than that, I felt this book took on a similar yet less successful production to The Secret. I was turned off by the author's self-applauding tone, as well as his ways of exaggerating readers' expectations only to disappoint by delivering a shallow content.

I felt like I opened a big box of cake that read, "Delicious mouth watering cake inside!!" only to find a tiny plain cupcake.

Let the Meta Secret Maximize your Life

I haven't finished the book yet but I truly feel it will help me to put the Law of Attraction into Action. I didn't know that Mel lost a arm in a hiking accident til I saw a video clip on youtube for the book Mega Secret. How can you NOT like someone who could have given up. I hope to read and re-read this book. As they say repetition is the precursor of memory. I am glad Joe Vitale, Bob Proctor and Jack Canfield gave a thumbs up for this wonderful book.

I got my book for under $20 w/ S& H. I feel it will be the best investment I've made in years. I will give copies of this book to friends. It is easy to say "you should check out this great book I'm reading". Why not let actions speak louder than words. I will comment on youtube on this book as I read it and finish it. I've seen many video clips in regards to the Law of Attraction and there are really good ones out there and under 10 min. in length. It shouldn't take any longer to get a good point across. I hope to meet and thank Mell Gill in person in this next year 2014.

I am glad I purchased this book on Amazon.com. I recently made a purchase on ebay because a popular book store couldn't order it for me. The book store was located in Australia and I never received my book and the company never responded to my emails. When I contacted ebay, after my 6 week waiting period they informed me they could NOT assist me with my dispute. Thank goodness my credit card refunded me the monies spent and told me they'e take it up with the Book store. I do not plan to purchase from ebay anymore!

The first pass wanted me to BUY a WinZip subscription. Let's keep in mind, I paid $55 for the book & CD-ROM when I ordered it.

While in a festive mood, I tried to down-load it through the zip preview. After waiting for it to load for 45 minutes, I thought this is rather poor performance by a pretty good publisher.

Oh . . . they gave a telephone number to talk about it. Regretably, I don't want to make new friends.

If they can't include a physical CD, I think they should make the information available on the site in a user friendly method.

Also, the title should NOT include a reference to a portion of the product that is not in the shipment box.

This book delivers for the most part.

I've invested on and off for years, and wanted to try my hand at day trading stocks and ETFs, so I went looking for a trading system that would work for me. This book delivered for the most part. So why only 3 stars?

On the plus side, the author's system relies heavily on only a small number of candlestick formations and technical indicators to do the heavy lifting, and I'm a big believer in the KISS principle. And he includes tons of real chart snippets along the way to exemplify every aspect of his system. I found that adhering strictly to the prescribed candle and technical confirmation triggers enabled me to make good trade entries almost immediately. That in itself makes me glad I read this work.

But there are some negatives. I found myself re-reading a page occasionally to gain understanding, not due to techno-market esoterica, but because it was not well written. I regret that I never did totally extract an understanding of the author's system for setting trailing stops. I wondered if the book was proof read. The pivot point portion of the system, though fairly easy to understand, is virtually impossible to implement/use without the right software package (which the author promotes randomly throughout the book).

Intriguing, yet very creepy take on cults.

This was a really good book! It was very suspenseful and full on creepy. The author portrayed Pioneer the cult leader, as an exact calculating, conniving man. She really wrote his character well, and I was every bit as scared of him as Lyla was. I liked Lyla's character for the most part. In the beginning she was naive and would let her friend talk over her, but she slowly became more confident. I also didn't believe the love connection she had with Cody. It was very insta-lovey and I didn't feel the connection between the two. Other than that I really enjoyed the book! Slow start, but it quickly developed once Lyla realized that Pioneer was a liar.
I would recommend reading this if you want to read about the inside of what a cult could be like and for a suspenseful thriller! I can't wait to read the sequel, Astray. I hope Pioneer rots in jail for the rest of his life!

Are you ready for the end of the world?

What if you _knew_ that the end of the world would be here in a few days? What if you and the people around you had been preparing for it all your life, or at least most of the life you remember? What if your family had been through an unspeakably horrific situation, and one person led them out of that hell, and now that person is preparing you to survive horrors at the end of the world?

Lyla is the main character, Pioneer is the prophet and the End Times are Now.

Ms. Parker paints one heck of a picture of a girl growing up in a survivalist cult. Her main character, Lyla, is a seventeen year old, and has spent the past ten years in Mandrodage Meadows. (Mandrodage = Armageddon. I'm not any kind of genius and I figured it out the moment I saw it) Lyla and her family, as well as nineteen other families and of course, The Pioneer, have been preparing for the end of the world, when only their small group will be saved.

Literally saved, in a survivalist silo just past the orchards. Every moment of their lives, both before and after the Earth changes rotation (the event that kills off everyone else, according to Pioneer and the shadowy Brethren that are only plugged into Pioneer) has been planned, down to their spouses and the fact that they will kill anyone outside their group on sight. Not because they don't have the supplies to save any additional mouths, but because everyone outside their group is Evil.

This book is written for adolescents, but would be a decent read for adults as well. It moves quickly, has lots of cliffhangers, and it takes almost no time to pull you into the story. Does the world really end? (The book's world. Since I'm writing this, our world hasn't ended yet) Does this group of survivalists manage to stay together and keep everyone out? And what about Lyla? Can she manage to keep her doubts and her character a secret, so that she can stay with her family and live to see tomorrow? [overprotective mother warning: there are a few violent and scary scenes toward the end, and animals die. Many girls are more upset about the horses rather than the mostly faceless people who die.]

I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it for anyone say twelve and older, provided they know about survivalist groups. A few minutes of watching television should tell you if you have the stomach to deal with survivalist camps, who seem to star in reality shows 24/7. Even an old bat like myself enjoyed this book greatly, and I'm old enough to have kids well over twelve!

Okay, have you ever had one of those moments when you are expecting something else and you get a completely different take on what you were thinking?
Still have no idea what I am talking about? Okay lets do an analogy then:

You order a sweet tea to drink and as you take a sip your taste buds are assaulted with this bubbling sensation as you realize you got a soda instead. And then as you drink it, you realize you really did want the soda.

Now I know you really think I have lost my mind! But that is what happened with Gated. For some strange reason, I was expecting Gated to be about a community ravaged by zombies. I don't know why; its just my mind was zombies and that was the evil I was expecting.
But that isn't what I got. And as I kept reading I realized this book is so much more scarier than zombies because this is something that could and has happened before in our society.

So I had one of my "Duh" moments but I am still glad I picked up this book because it really blew my mind. I never really read any books about religious cults but I now see what I have been missing.
Gated is one of those realistic scary books. As I was reading I couldn't understand how these people could get drawn in to what their leader was "preaching" to them. But as I continued through the book, I realized these characters were already hopeless. A lot of them had given up on society through terrible situations they have been through. And as they hit rock bottom, it was so easy to believe anything.
Each character was written very well. Our protagonist, Lyla, is the one that seems to question everything. Even when she feels guilty for doing it. Its just very disappointing that the parents, who are the ones who should be protecting their children, are so drawn in to what this man is telling them that they will give him free reign over their own free will.

And just as the protagonists were written very well, the antagonist was written doubly well. You can tell the author did some amazing research on cults and serial killers. I really liked how each chapter had quotes from the Leader and then as the book gets further in you get quotes from different killers in our own history.

Gated is one of those dark stories that really grabs us and won't let go. It forces us to take a look at the true monsters that surround us and pushes us to question everything.

I had to give Gated four hearts!

Most Helpful and Applicable to Our Start-up's Financing Scenarios

I purchased this book shortly after it was published, read it, put it away, picked it back up again, put it away… I find it a valuable and concise resource.

Briefly, my story – our Health IT company has been angel funded for the last couple of years and we are ready to move to the next step. This may be additional angel monies, pitching to VC’s, or pursuing a business development deal with larger health IT company. I read the book initially right after we secured our funding (and honestly wish I had read it before). My background is in publishing and for the last 18 years, healthcare software with a larger company and more recently a development role in a prior start-up.

Besides being very well written, comprehensive yet to the point, it is composed in way that is motivating because it encourages you to think from the other side of the table. How can you best structure and package your start-up’s financial strategy given your talent core, your market, your opportunity and your strengths to best frame it for the person who writes your next check? How do we go about building the necessary connections and relationships required in this arena to best ensure our success? Certainly no book can give you all the answers, but Venture Capital for Dummies encourages you be analytical and consider various points of view and pathways.

The book challenges you to think about what funding paths you can take based upon where you are in the start-up continuum, and what outcomes you might expect based upon those choices. Admittedly, we are in the throes of that decision at this point in time. Very good reference guide

Great resource for the ins and outs of Venture Capital, the mindset of a Venture Capitalist, the types of companies that VC's look for, and how to communicate with them. It's a typical Dummies book because it presents the material in a very easy to understand manner, but this could be a text book at a top MBA program because it's so thorough. It talks about alternatives to VC funding such as Angels and Crowdfunding, deal structuring, company valuation, negotiating with VC's, and more. This should be required reading for every entrepreneur.

Jim is the author of more than a dozen books on mobile and wireless topics, including Designing and Deploying 802.11n Wireless Networks (Cisco Press), Implementing 802.1X Security Solutions (Wiley), Wireless Networking Handbook  (New Riders), and Network Re-engineering (McGraw-Hill). He has been an active participant in IEEE standards organizations, such as the IEEE 802.11 Working Group and the Wi-Fi Alliance. He has served as chairman of the IEEE Computer Society, Dayton Section, and various conferences. I read this back in 2011/12 for an IPv6 project. Very very good, excellent historical background not only on IPv6 but on IP and provides some of the political reasons for why and how we are where we are today with the internet and IPv6.

About the Author
Michael St. Clair has a clinical background in individual and family therapy, as well as in teaching personality theory and supervising students in field placements. He is a Professor of Psychology at Emmanuel College, Boston. He has published in the area of object relations and also in the history of millennarian groups.

Jodie Wigren has held teaching appointments at the Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. She lectures on psychology at University of Massachusetts, Boston. She has published in psychological and psychoanalytic journals on trauma, attachment and transference/countertransference. For many years she has conducted a private practice in Brookline, Mass.

Michael St. Clair's "Object Relations and Self Psychology"

This book provides a useful survey of the various writers and practitioners who are customarily regarded as Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic theorists. The author begins with Freud's drive-oriented model and progresses on through more relational-focused proponents such as Melanie Klein, W.R.D. Fairbairn, D.W. Winnicott, and Kernberg on to Self Psychologists, Heinz Kohut and Stephen Mitchell.

The book is consistently organized throughout, with each chapter including each theorist's key concepts, how these concepts inform the developmental process, how psychopathology is defined and illustrative cases.

The language at times can be somewhat cumbersome and unclear. I also received this feedback from my students. This book is Great! Meaning is easy to read, covers all the important names in psychotherapy in cOncise chapters. Is hard to put it down. Very helpful during my boards preparation. Good introduction to psychotherapy. Do not expect formulation exercises. But very interesting basic and useful. Little pricey though, but the content makes up for it!!
