This is the 2nd time I've read this book. I had given it away and decided it was time for me to re-read it. I am a Christian and even though God is not mentioned, I feel "the Universe" is his creation and apply it accordingly.

This is a great book. We could use a little more positivity in our lives, especially with all that is around us. I am a Christian and I know the bible well, but honestly, I think this has a lot of biblical likenesses. Of Course it's not a bible, but for that quick browse in the morning, at night or while at work, is worth getting. This book helps you to think outside of the box.

About the Author

Deborah Phillips has been teaching English for over twenty-five years with an emphasis on test preparation and academic skills preparation. She has led seminars and participated in conferences on test preparation and English language teaching in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, France, Spain, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. She currently teaches courses for the certification of teachers in English as a second language at the University of California.  Ms. Phillips is the author of the Longman Preparation Course for the TOEFL® Test series of textbooks and CD-ROMs. She is currently working on new textbooks and CD-ROMs to prepare students for the latest version of the TOEFL® test.

About the Author
Joshua Miller worked as a social worker, group worker, family therapist, agency director and community organizer for twenty years in Seattle, London, Dublin and Western Massachusetts before becoming a professor of Social Work at Smith College, where he teaches antiracism courses and currently serves as the Chair of the Social Policy Sequence. Joshua continues to do antiracism work in agencies and communities across the United States and has published numerous articles about various aspects of racism and antiracism. He also specializes in disaster mental health and has responded to many disasters, including 9/11, the Asian Tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina. He is currently engaged in practice and research for a forthcoming book on culturally responsive disaster mental health in a global context.

Ann Marie Garran has been in practice in New York City since 1992. Her clinical work has been primarily with adolescents and their families, both in outpatient and school settings and has focused on trauma, and issues related to oppression and poverty. Currently, Ann Marie is Clinical Supervisor at the Hunter College Employee Assistance Program in New York, NY. Her primary areas of professional interest include issues of race and social work practice, integration of psychodynamic theory and clinical practice, adolescent mental health, and clinical supervision. She has done antiracism work in communities and agencies, and is a diversity consultant in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Ann Marie has been an adjunct instructor at Smith College School for Social Work since 1999, where she has taught antiracism courses as well as courses in psychological theory and in group theory and practice.

Great Book!

This is a very well written, clear and well organized book on the many issues that affect the helping professions in relation to institutionalized racism. I am a graduate clinical social work student and this was one of my favorite books this year. It is not whine-y, it is well researched, and it was a fascinating and sometimes amazing read. It was great to read and become informed about racism while working with people from many different backgrounds. Even though I was very well versed in the subject beforehand, the way the book presented up to date research and ideas made it an unexpectedly great read.

There is so much to say about this amazing book! I purchased it for a cultural competency course with MCU for my midwifery studies. It's a great book that teaches about white privilege, racism, and what professionals can do to work with a culturally diverse population.

This is a really great book. I am an English teacher/librarian with no real experience coaching debate, but this really got me on the right track. I would recommend it for debaters and coaches, and I think there is something in here even for experienced debaters. Other reviewers have mentioned that the research section was a bit dated, but this book was easily worth it's weight in gold to someone like me, even if you tear those pages out. I think even public forum debaters who have so much less technical stuff to deal with would benefit from reading the chapters on Policy debate so they can understand the pedigree of Public Forum, how the "stock issues" work, etc.

Great Resource Book for Students

I advise the student-led debate club at our community college. Though I believe the guide was written primarily for high school debate coaches, I bought copies for the officers of our debate club after first reading it myself. The guide is straight-forward and has a lot of clear explanations and examples that can be applied immediately. Though I have to buy copies of this guide out of my own pocket since we don't have a budget for them in my department, I will be purchasing them again this year for my students - I think it is a good investment.

Great Text, Low Quality

This book really gives you a basic understanding of debate fundamentals. I've even used this book as a guide in my debate rounds! It is a somewhat outdated book, regarding common debate terms, but still applies in modern competitive debate. The quality of the book, however, was lower than what I expected. Highlighter and worn pages were frequent throughout the book.

This book is awesome! There is a lot of information within this book. A lot of good and very useful information. This book is perfect for a person that is in need of getting to know their own scooter. So far this book has helped me fix two problems on my scooter that would of been expensive to take into a repair shop. This book can teach you things about your own scooter that will be very helpful. You will not regret buying this book. There is also a lot of information regarding all types of scooters, from two to four stroke. There is pictures in this book also that are very helpful also. Specially for a visual person. The pictures are clear and are labeled with step by step instructions too. This book will teach you a lot about your own scooter a lot about other scooters too. After reading this book I assure you that you will fix what is wrong with any scooter. You will save a lot of money by buying and reading this book. Considering how much it cost just in labor to take a scooter in to get it checked out. That is not counting how much the part will cost too. A normal affordable scooter is under $1,000. If a repair can end up costing you around $300 for another $200 you can just buy a new scooter. Cost on parts and repairing a scooter in a shop can be costly and not convenient at all. I believe with this book you will save yourself a lot of money on repairs. It is easy to read and also understand.

Purchased the kindle version 2 weeks ago. Took and pass the exam today. The material and presentation was very good. The author made a good effort to expand and reiterate some topics by revisiting them in different chapters/domains. The 2 minute drills were very helpful for last minute cramming/review. Take the time to do the Performance-Based questions at the end of the chapters--I ignored them and thus wasn't prepared for them on the actual exam. The Total Tester was very good but not enough questions (200). The book boasts 400 but I believe 200 are in the book. Would have been nice if the Total Tester included those questions and the performance questions. This book was more useful to me than the other kindle book I purchased a month ago: CompTIA Security+ Study Guide: SY0-401 6th Edition (Dulaney).

Good Study Guide for Security+

I recently took the Security Plus exam and failed the first time out. It was not the fault of this book. Glen Clarke's Security+ study guide is
very good. The objectives are all explained thoroughly as well as clearly. This is a very readable book that even a layman could use. My one
caveat is that the chapter questions are far too simplistic. They cover the material in the chapter, but aren't good preparation for the exam.
On the plus side, this book comes with a CD that includes an extra 200 test prep questions as well as a pdf of the book. What's great is that these questions are presented as you would see them on a COMP TIA exam. However, even these questions, while more difficult than those in the book are still not enough to pass the exam if you have limited experience in IT security.

If a person fails the exam, it's not the fault of the various books. I also used Darril Gibson's security plus book and it too was excellent. The problem with multiple choice tests is that you are presented with two right answers to the question. You have to know which answer is more correct than the other, because there is the COMP TIA way of thinking and there is the real world way of thinking. They aren't the same. As a result, what you consider is the right answer, may not be right and that has messed up a lot of people.

If you have some experience in IT, this book may be all that you need. For people with less experience, having a couple of books along with some of the testing APPs could be helpful. My advice for passing the exam ? Know authentication. Know authentication. Know authentication and cryptography.

Absolutely do not use this as your only means of study.

I bought this book to assist me with studying for Security+. At first I used it as a comprehensive guide to assist me with studying, but after realizing some of the information within the book is blatantly incorrect, I now have to verify my facts before committing them to memory.
A perfect example: Page 520 says that FTPS and SFTP are the same thing. They are not.

In addition to some glaring errors, the book at times falls completely short of information that will be included in the exam. I'm not sure what the author was thinking when he wrote this, but he should have used google, or at least COMPTIA's site for guidance. There is some good information in there, but I would not recommend anyone use this as their only means of study.

About the Author

Samuel E. Wood received his doctorate from the University of Florida. He taught at West Virginia University and the University of Missouri–St. Louis and was a member of the doctoral faculty at both universities. From 1984 to 1996, he served as president of the Higher Education Center, a consortium of 14 colleges and universities in the St. Louis area. He was a cofounder of the Higher Education Cable TV channel (HEC-TV) in St. Louis and served as its president and CEO from its founding in 1987 until 1996. Dr. Wood passed away in 2008.

 

Ellen Green Wood received her doctorate in educational psychology from St. Louis University and was an adjunct professor of psychology at St. Louis Community College at Meramec. She has also taught in the clinical experiences program in education at Washington University and at the University of Missouri—St. Louis. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Wood has developed and taught seminars on critical thinking. She received the Telecourse Pioneer Award from 1982 through 1988 for her contributions to the field of distance learning.

 

Denise Boyd received her Ed.D. in educational psychology from the University of Houston and has been a psychology instructor in the Houston Community College system since 1988. From 1995 until 1998, she chaired the psychology, sociology, and anthropology department at Houston Community College–Central. She has coauthored three other Allyn and Bacon texts: with Helen Bee, Lifespan Development (Fourth Edition) and The Developing Child (Eleventh Edition); and with Genevieve Stevens, Current Readings in Lifespan Development. A licensed psychologist, she has presented a number of papers at professional meetings, reporting research in child, adolescent, and adult development. She has also presented workshops for teachers whose students range from preschool to college.

 

Together, Sam, Ellen and Denise have more than 45 years of experience teaching introductory psychology to thousands of students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Mastering the World of Psychology, Fourth Edition is the direct result of their teaching experience.

Just so that it is clear, this particual item does not come with the MyPsychLab Student Activation Code. After talking with Amazon and describing to them that it is mentioned in the write up (which is a simular write up as the Developmental Mathematics (7th Edition), but it came with the MyMathLab). Amazon informed me that I had to search for the Mastering the World of Psychology, Books a la Carte Plus MyPsychLab Pegasus (3rd Edition) or Mastering the World of Psychology Value Package (includes MyPsychLab with E-Book Student Access )

I have noticed in other reviews that people where unhappy due to poor used book condition, this is not the point of fact; this was a new purchase, and itshould explain clearly if does or does not come with the MyPsychLab Student Activation Code.

I also want to point out that this review has nothing to do with the content in the book it self, but how some things are described in the Amazon listing. College books are expensive enough with out having to deal with the right product or not. This has been my first (and better be my last) let down from Amazon direct itself. If it was from a store selling in Amazon that is one thing, it is another when it came from the bigs itself.

This product lists in title that it includes a New access card to myPsychLab but did not include a package deal when I received it.
